5 Web Design Elements for SEO

12 March 2018

3 mins read

Get a kickstart ahead of your competitors with these tips!

With the advent of innovative smart phone solutions around every corner of the world, it leaves very little room for brands to lag behind with year 1997 type of websites in this adage of digital wave.

To proclaim the throne of the Search Engine Results Page (SERPs) , it takes a combination of a well-designed, structured and content-relevant elements. Google crawl algorithms may be changing ever so often, but there is a fundamental set of basic requirements that has not lost it’s importance to gain that coveted spot for the keyword that you’re ranking for.

Here’s a rundown of the elements that will help you get a boost in Google’s ranking.

Mobile-friendly (responsive)

On 26 March 2018, there was a buzz when Google announced that mobile indexing will be placed as the topmost priority when Google crawls your website. Google may have had announced desktop and mobile indexing in late 2016, but not many understood what it meant. It was also only in the testing stage. To put it simply, it means that when Google crawls your website, you get a “priority” ahead of your competitors under the mobile-indexing approach. Google looks out for this mobile friendly design factor, and gives it a boost in ranking, to visitors on mobile devices.

HTML and Meta Tagging Elements

This one’s our safest bet. From your Meta Tags to your Meta Description, this one’s a must. After all, when Google crawl bots crawl your website, they need to know what your website is about. Is this page talking about your Social Media Marketing? Or is it talking about the Types of Vending Machines that you offer? The Title Tag, H1 and H2 Tags are crucial – followed by your content.

To put into a football analogy, it’s like being given handed a penalty shot against Petr Cech – he never saves it, so it’s a 90% giveaway. Similarly, it’s a sure win with Google when you get all your Title Tags and Meta elements sorted. So get this sorted out and you’re one step closer to ranking higher. You can always engage our services so that we can cover the 360s of this with you.

Blog

We can’t emphasise this enough. If nobody has told this yet, having this blog not only helps to keep your audiences updated on the ongoings of your company, but it also largely helps to cushion or boost your SEO ranking by a substantial bit. This also gives you a chance to update your content – and that’s always a good thing!

Quality Content

Invest in professional copywriting services or engage SEO agency that are apt in crafting SEO-friendly content for your website. From your About Us down to your Services, content that are SEO-optimised can make a huge difference when Google crawbots crawl your website and a competitor. The old adage that “Content is King” still rules even as we write this article, in fact we don’t think this will ever go away. There is no direct replacement for good content – a factor highly looked at by Google when ranking a website.

In SEO, the task at hand is – to employ Google’s best practices to make it easier for search engines bots to crawl, index and understand content on websites in general.
Here’s our favourite SEO guideline that we adhere to – described acutely in a periodic table for Search Engine Optimisation.

Site Usability

If your audiences can’t navigate easily within your website, you’ll be seeing higher bounce rates and a higher exit rate – and that’s bad news for your organisation. This has a detrimental effect on your conversion rates, and leaves a negative impression on your customers. Not to mention a poor customer experience.

Start with a user-friendly sitemap, easily understood by your critical mass. Make your navigation bars or floater tabs conspicuous – especially if they’re a crucial Call to Action for a conversion on your website. Move on to a wireframe that is easy on the eyes and doesn’t look too cluttery.
